SZ-5 OPTOMER Spare Length Cable Box
The SZ-5 spare length cable box is designed for storing cable reserves outside buildings. Unlike the SZ-1 and SZ-4 series, which are designed mainly for installation in telecom manholes and cable rooms, the SZ-5 was designed for outdoor use, on building facades or support structures.
What is the SZ-5 cable storage box used for?
The SZ-5 box protects the cable reserve from mechanical damage and ensures the correct bending radius. The aluminum enclosure with RAL 7035 powder coating and a lockable cover protect the contents from weather conditions, which matters for outdoor building installations.
This solution allows you to:
✔ maintain the correct cable bending radius,
✔ protect the cable reserve from mechanical damage and weather conditions,
✔ route the cable horizontally or vertically, thanks to the option of mounting the box rotated by 90°,
✔ keep the outdoor cable installation organized,
✔ simplify maintenance and access to the reserve during network upgrades.
A design built for outdoor installation
SZ-5 – cable storage box for outdoor use
A box measuring 635×635×140 mm, made of aluminum sheet. It is equipped with four cable glands located on the top and bottom walls, allowing the cable entry direction to be matched to the installation conditions. By rotating the box 90° (while keeping the cover’s mounting direction unchanged), horizontally laid cables can be routed in instead of vertical ones.
Installation and cabling
Access to the inside of the box is gained by unlocking the lock and removing the cover, which is tilted slightly and slid off the enclosure. The free end of the cable is passed through one of the two cable glands included with the box.
The cable reserve is coiled into even loops and placed inside the box, and the free end is routed out through the second cable gland. The number of possible cable layouts depends on the entry and exit points of the cable as well as the mounting orientation, giving flexibility when planning the cable route on a facade or support structure.
Once the work is finished, the cover is put back on the enclosure and the lock is engaged, protecting the cable reserve from unauthorized access and outdoor weather conditions.
